Former Rice Owl great Jessica Holderness is in her first season with the Owls' volleyball program, serving as volunteer assistant coach. Holderness is a 2009 Rice graduate with a B.A. degree in kinesiology. The Sycamore, Illinois, native also plays professionally on the sand volleyball circuit.

Hampered by injury throughout the season, playing in just 13 matches and 44 games... Shifted from the middle to the outside, playing both sides... Closed out the season as a force for the Owls in the final three matches, leading the team with 3.0 kpg and hitting .299 on the right side while adding 4.62 dpg... Posted career highs of 16 kills and 24 digs at SMU... Received the Rice Commitment Award.

Played and started every game and match for the Owls... Took on the role of middle blocker during the pre-season, making 28 starts at that position... Started the final match of the year on the outside... Finished the year with 223 kills, recording a high of 14 three times... Recorded a triple-double at Houston with 12 kills, 11 assists and 17 digs... Added four double-doubles during the season... Posted a best of seven blocks at UT-San Antonio... Received the Rice Most Improved Award.

A 2005 graduate of Sycamore High School in Sycamore, Ill... Two-year starter and letterwinner for the Sycamore High School Spartans and coach Debbie Klock... Led the Spartans to a 37-2 record and a second consecutive super-sectionals bid in 2004... Earned All-State honorable mention... All-conference honoree... Also started and lettered freshman and sophomore years at DeKalb High School in DeKalb, Ill... Graduated with a 3.5 GPA.
