New Orleans -- The U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) recognized Rice University's women's track and field squad as one of its Division I All-Academic Track and Field Teams for 2009. A total of 130 Division I programs were honored as women's all-academic teams. The Owls sported an overall team gpa of 3.237.
Also, Lucie Cincinatis, Shannon Moran, Allison Pye, Shakera Reece, Rebecca Wade, Eleanor Waite, Callie Wells, and Britany Williams were honored by the USTFCCCA as members of the Division I All-Academic Track and Field Team.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either the NCAA Division I Indoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard or the NCAA Division I Outdoor regional or national qualifying standard in their respective event.
The 2008-09 athletic year was another successful season for the Rice women's cross country and track and field program, led by head coach Jim Bevan. The cross country team placed second at the Conference USA championship and second at the NCAA South Central Regional and 22nd in the nation at the NCAA championship. Also, the track and field team continued its dominance as it captured the C-USA indoor and outdoor team titles, winning both for the third consecutive time.
