Eugene, Ore. - At the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials, former Rice track and field athlete Funmi Jimoh (Rice, 2007) qualified for the finals of the long jump. Jimoh became one of 12 finalists out of 27 competitors when she jumped the third-best mark of qualifying at 6.61m/21-8.25.
Jimoh jumped 5.91m/19-4.75 on her first attempt, 6.40m/21-0, and then 6.61m/21-8.25 on her final attempt. Jimoh currently sports the world's third-best mark in the long jump at 6.91m/22-8.
A native of Houston and Dulles H.S., Jimoh and the other 11 finalists compete for three spots on Thursday, July 3, at 7:20 p.m. (Pacific) at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field.
