Rice senior distance star Becky Wade has been named to Capital One Academic All-America® women's track & field/cross country second team, adding yet another honor to her glittering resume.
The senior from Dallas who graduated in May with a 4.00 GPA while majoring in sociology, history and psychology, earned All America honors in cross country, indoor and outdoor track this year while being awarded a Thomas J. Watson fellowship and being inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. She is also a candidate for the NCAA's Woman of the Year honor.
In addition to earning All America status in all three sports, Wade won Conference USA titles this year in the mile at the indoor championships and doubled with gold medals in the 5,000 and 10,000 meter races outdoors.
She will take to the track at least one more time wearing her Rice uniform when she competes in the preliminary round of the 3,000 meter steeplechase at the US Track and Field Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon on Monday.
