Fayetteville, Ark. -- Rice sophomore distance runner Becky Wade placed 11th in the 10,000m run at NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship at Arkansas' John McDonnell Field. Wade, a native of Dallas, Texas, posted a time of 34:38.39. Providence's Danette Doetzel, a senior, was first with a time of 33:25.71.

"Becky ran a very gutty race," commented Rice women's head track and field coach Jim Bevan. "She fought her way to claim the last All-American spot."

Rice has now had at least one All-American in each of the last 10 years. In 2008, pole vaulter Rachel Greff was an All-American with a fifth place finish.

A year ago, Wade, as a freshman, placed 20th in the 10,000m with a time of 35:51.16. She set a meet record in winning the 10,000m run at the C-USA Outdoor Championship with a time of 34:41.14.
