HOUSTON, Texas - Three Owls will be representing Rice track and field this week as they travel to the 2015 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships, June 10-13 at historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
Sophomore decathlete Scott Filip is seeded eighth (7632 points) entering the championships following his career-best performance at the C-USA Outdoor Championships. Filip will compete on Wednesday beginning at 1:30 p.m. (CT), starting with the 100 meters followed by the long jump, shot put, high jump and 400 meters. Filip will then compete in the final five events Thursday starting with the 110 hurdles at 12 p.m. (CT).
On the women's side a pair of sophomores will be representing the Owls in the triple jump when Daisy Ding and Cybil Obiozor take aim at an NCAA title on Saturday at 4 p.m. (CT). Ding, from Sydney, Australia, placed eighth overall by jumping 12.87m (42-02.75) on her first attempt at the NCAA West Prelims. That mark was the second-best performance of the season for the reigning C-USA Outdoor champion.
Obiozor, a native of Pearland, Texas, saved her best for last with a leap of 12.79m (41-11.50) at the NCAA West Prelims to squeak by Nebraska's Angela Mercurio for the 12th and final qualifying spot.
Wednesday's action will air on ESPN3 starting at 4 p.m. (CT) until 9 p.m. (CT). At 9 p.m. (CT), ESPNU will carry the meet live and broadcast until 12:30 a.m. (CT).
