NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship Schedule and Information

Rice University will have four student-athletes competing at this week's NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship in Eugene, Ore. Representing the Owls are Shakera Reece in the women's 100m, Philip Adam in the decathlon, and Shea Kearney and Jason Colwick in the pole vault. Action takes place at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field.

Reece begins her competition on Wednesday, June 9 with the running of the 100m semi-final at 6 p.m. (Pacific). The final for the 100m is on Friday, June 11, at 5:32 p.m. (Pacific). Reece is hoping to become Rice's first All-America sprinter since Nina Mayes did so in 2003 in the 100m.

Last year Lennie Waite (3000m steeplechase-5th) and Becky Wade (10,000m-11th) earned All-America status for Rice's women's track and field squad.

Adam begins the decathlon on Thursday, June 10 with 100m dash, followed by the long jump, shot put, high jump, and 400m run. The last five events, 110m hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin, and 1500m run will be held on Friday, June 11.

Adam enters the meet with an all-time best of 7,396 points in the decathlon. That point total is the second-highest in Rice history, behind Ryan Harlan's 8,171 points, which he accumulated in winning the 2004 NCAA title.

Colwick and Kearney's pole vault competition is on Thursday, June 10 starting at 4 p.m. (Pacific). Colwick enters the meet tied with Kansas' Jordan Scott for the NCAA's best mark of 2010. Each cleared 5.71m/18-8.75 at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin, Texas.

Colwick won the 2009 NCAA Outdoor title when he cleared 5.70m/18-8.25 in Fayetteville, Ark. He also won the 2009 NCAA Indoor crown (5.60m/18-4.5) and was second at the 2010 NCAA Indoor (5.50m/18-0.5). The San Marcos, Texas, native has an all-time best mark and Rice record of 5.72m/18-9.25 set at the 2009 Texas Relays.

Kearney, from Phoenix, Ariz., won the 2008 Conference USA Indoor title with a mark of 5.16m/16-11. He placed second to Colwick at the C-USA Outdoor meet with a height of 5.20m/17-0.75. Kearney's all-time outdoor best is 5.25m/17-2.75, set at the 2010 NCAA West Region in Austin.
