Rice University distance runner Becky Wade competes in the 10,000-meter run at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship on Thursday (June 7) in Des Moines, Iowa.
"I'm really excited to be going to nationals and to represent Rice in my last collegiate race," commented Wade. "I want to put myself in position to finish as high as possible and mix it up with the frontrunners."
The 10,000m final is set for 8:45 p.m. (CT) at Drake Stadium on the campus of Drake University.
Wade is quite familiar with Drake Stadium as she finished 20th in the 10,000m (35:51.16) during her freshman season at the 2009 NCAA Outdoor Championship to earn her first All-America accolade.
The senior from Dallas, Texas, will try for her third All-America honor this year after earning All-America status in cross country as well as in the 5000m at the NCAA Indoor Championship. She enters the competition with the fifth-fastest time in the nation with a school-record time (32:40.82) accomplished at the Stanford Invitational. She won the 10,000m and the 5000m events at the 2012 C-USA Outdoor Championship and then placed 11th in the 10,000m at the NCAA West Preliminary Round in Austin, Texas.
The NCAA Outdoor Championship will be streamed live through ESPN3.com, with the exception of Wednesday, June 6, which will be streamed at www.NCAA.com. It is available for free.
