Rice Owl women's track and field will be represented by five distance runners at the upcoming 28th Women's NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship to be held in Fayetteville, Ark. and hosted by the University of Arkansas. Action takes place June 10-13 at John McDonnell Field.

Competing for Rice are Lennie Waite (3000m steeplechase), Nicole Mericle (3000m steeplechase), Allison Pye (5000m), Callie Wells (5000m), and Becky Wade in the 10,000m.

Waite is the school-record holder for the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 10:00.30. She placed second at the NCAA Midwest Regional (10:00.71), while teammate Mericle was sixth at 10:16.87. Waite also won the 2009 Conference USA 3000m steeplechase event with a time of 10:13.92, while Mericle was third (10:21.39).

In the 5000m, Wells holds the school record at 16:20.95 ran at Stanford's Cardinal Invitational on May 2. She placed third at the C-USA Outdoor Championship (16:40.57) and fifth at the NCAA Midwest Regional (16:28.35). Pye holds a personal best time of 16:21.35 ran at this year's Mt. SAC Relays. She finished sixth at the C-USA championship (16:50.00) and eighth at the NCAA Midwest Regional (16:40.31).

Wade set a meet record in winning the 10,000m run at the C-USA Outdoor Championship with a time of 34:41.14. This is her second appearance at the NCAA Outdoor Championship. A year ago, Wade, as a freshman, placed 20th in the 10,000m with a time of 35:51.16.
