Nine Rice Owl track and field athletes will compete in seven events at the 27th annual NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship held June 11-14 in Des Moines, Iowa. Action takes place at Drake University's Drake Stadium. A total of 544 student-athletes per gender will compete in the championship.
"We have a lot of scoring opportunities with nine athletes competing," says Rice head coach Jim Bevan. "It is also the most number of athletes that Rice has had qualified for nationals in a long time."
Representing Rice are seniors Desarie Walwyn (100m), Marissa Daniels (10,000m), and Rachel Greff (pole vault); sophomores Brittany Washington (4x100m), Shakera Reece (100m and 4x100m), and Nicole Mericle (3000m steeplechase), and three freshmen including Sarah Lyons (400m and 4x100m), Allison Pye (5000m), Becky Wade (10,000m).
