IRVING, Texas -- Rice track and field athletes Belle MacFarlane and Cali Roper were each named to the C-USA All-Academic Team, the league office announced Wednesday afternoon.
A sophomore from Conroe, Texas, Roper holds a 3.80 GPA in Sports Management and is coming off a C-USA Outdoor title in the 10,000m (36:14.70). Roper joined former Owl Marissa Daniels as the only runners in school history to win back-to-back C-USA titles in the outdoor 10,000m.
Roper also won conference titles at the C-USA Indoor 5000m and became the first runner in school history to win a C-USA Cross Country title. She was also named both the C-USA Outdoor Co-Track Performer of the Meet and the C-USA Cross Country Female Athlete of the Year.
MacFarlane earned her second straight C-USA All-Academic Team honor a week after placing third in the high jump at the C-USA Outdoor Championships. A junior from Dallas, Texas, MacFarlane boasts a 3.89 GPA while majoring in Kinesiology.
During the outdoor season MacFarlane won the high jump at the Victor Lopez Classic and was the top collegiate finisher at the Occidental Invitational. During the indoor season MacFarlane placed fourth in the high jump at the C-USA Indoor Championships.
