Three Owls Named to Women’s C-USA All-Academic Team

IRVING, Texas – The Rice Owls landed a league-leading three student-athletes on the 2017 InTouch Credit Union Conference USA Women’s Track & Field All-Academic Team, the league office announced on Wednesday (5/24) afternoon.

Katie Jensen (senior), Elsa Racasan (junior) and Ayane Rossano (junior) were recognized for both their classroom and athletic achievements. The C-USA All-Academic is comprised of 11 female track and field athletes with a minimum grade point average of 3.2 and at least sophomore class standing.

Jensen, from The Woodlands, Texas, had a stellar indoor season, earning USTFCCCA Second Team All-American honors with a 12th place finish in the 3000m at the NCAA Indoor Championships. That performance came on the heels of a school record-breaking run of 9:05.66 (3000m) at the Boston University Last Chance Meet. Jensen won three C-USA Indoor titles: mile (4:39.61), 3000m (9:22.24) and ran a leg on the winning DMR team (11:34.73). Jensen, who earned her first career C-USA Track & Field All-Academic Team honor, is a Chemical Engineering major with a 3.73 GPA.

Racasan, from Lugrin, France, earned C-USA Indoor All-Conference honors in the mile (third place), 3000m (third place), and distance medley relay (first place). In addition, she won the mile at the Howie Ryan Invitational and the Houston Invitational. Racasan, who earned her second career C-USA Track & Field All-Academic Team honor, is a Kinesiology major with a 4.12 GPA.

Rossano, from Bellevue, Wash., earned C-USA All-Conference honors in the pole vault during the outdoor (second) and indoor (third) seasons. A Kinesiology/Biochemistry major with a 3.95 GPA,
Rossano established a personal best mark of 3.86m (12-8.00) at the C-USA Outdoor Championships. This is the first C-USA Track & Field All-Academic Team honor of her career.
