Rice Track Qualifies 10 for NCAA West Prelims

NCAA West Preliminary Round Declared Athletes: Men | Women

- Entrants for the 2015 NCAA West Preliminary Championships were finalized Thursday and the Rice University track and field program will send 10 members to compete in eight different events the at the University of Texas, May 28-30. 

Cali Roper (10,000m), Daisy Ding (triple jump) and Cybil Obiozor (triple jump) will represent the Rice women while Evan Karakolis (javelin), Chris Pillow (pole vault), Scott Filip (long jump), Duncan Dickerson (hammer throw), Filip Drozdowski (110m hurdles), Charlie Card-Childers (high jump) and Erik Maher (javelin) qualified for the men.

Athletes who rank in the top 48 in their respective event earn berths into the NCAA West Preliminary Round. Athletes with the top 12 times/marks at both the East and West prelims will qualify for the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon, June 10-13. There is no decathlon or heptathlon at the NCAA preliminary rounds. The top 24 decathlon and heptathlon marks in the nation earn an automatic berth to the NCAAs. 

The 2015 NCAA West Prelims begin next Thursday, May 28, at 12 p.m. All other information regarding the regional rounds can be found here

FR- Charlie Card-Childers: High Jump (37th- 2.13m)
SO- Erik Maher: Javelin (42nd- 62.65m)

SO- Cybil Obiozor: Triple Jump (10th- 12.86m)
