Rice Track & Field Qualifies 12 for NCAA West Preliminary

Entrants for the 2016 NCAA West Preliminary Championships were finalized Thursday and the Rice University track and field programs will send a combined 12 athletes to compete in 11 different events at the University of Kansas' Rock Chalk Park, May 26-28. 

Daisy Ding (triple jump), McKenzie Johnson (pole vault), Belle MacFarlane (high jump), Cybil Obiozor (triple jump), Elsa Racasan (1500m), Bryanah Rideaux (400m), Cali Roper (10,000m) and Claire Uke (shot put, discus) will represent the Rice women's team while Will Firth (3000m steeple), Evan Karakolis (javelin), Austin Riddle (hammer) and Marco Ruiz (3000m steeple) qualified for the men.

Athletes who rank in the top 48 in their respective event earn berths into the NCAA West Preliminary Round. Athletes with the top 12 times/marks at both the East and West prelims will qualify for the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon, June 10-13.
