Five Women's Track Athletes Qualify For NCAA Championships
Johnson, Olson, Robinson, Thompson and Uke headed to NCAAs

Five Rice women's track and field athletes qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in six different events. Sharae Robinson, who qualified in two events, McKenzie Johnson, Heather Olson, Marie Thompson, and Claire Uke, compete in Austin, Texas from May 23-25 in Preliminary Round action.
Robinson, who won the C-USA Championship in the discus, competes in that event at 12 p.m. on May 24, and also qualified for the hammer throw, where she is the Rice school record holder, at 2 p.m. on May 23. Robinson has won the discus six times so far in the outdoor season, and has won the hammer throw five times.
Johnson, the C-USA Champion in the indoor pole vault and an All-C-USA performer in the outdoor pole vault, starts her vaulting at 1 p.m. on May 24. The true freshman has four event victories in the pole vault this season, outdoor and indoor combined.
Heather Olson competes in the steeplechase at 8:50 p.m. on May 24. She has won that event twice this season, including winning her section at the Mt. SAC Relays with a career-best time of 10:23.14.
Marie Thompson runs in the 10,000 m race on May 23 at 9 p.m. She finished eighth in that event at the C-USA Championships, and was an All-C-USA Cross Country runner in the fall.
Claire Uke competes in the shot put at 6 p.m. on May 25. She earned All-C-USA honors with a second place finish at the outdoor championships, and won the event in the indoor season. In total, she has won the shot put a total of five times this season.
