Owls in First Place at C-USA Outdoor Track & Field Championship

El Paso, Texas -- The Rice Owls are in first place after the first day of action at the 2008 Conference USA Outdoor Track and Field Championship hosted by UTEP.

In very windy conditions at high altitude, Marissa Daniels and Becky Wade finished first and second in the 10,000m run to push the Rice Owls into first place. Daniels posted a first place time of 36:22.93 and Wade followed at 36:48.45. Also, Allison Pye placed sixth (37:43.23) to score three more points for Rice.

For Daniels, it was her third conference title in the 10,000m during her four-year career at Rice. She won the C-USA title in 2007 and she won the WAC 10,000m title in 2005. Daniels also placed second in the C-USA 10,000m in 2006.
