EL PASO, Texas - The Rice Owls women's track and field team wrapped up a busy weekend by sending three vaulters to Saturday's UTEP Invitational, all of which finished in the top three.
Rice junior McKenzie Johnson won her seventh career pole vault competition with a season-best mark of 4.00m (13-01.50), outdoing teammates Marielle Brisbois (T-2nd, 3.90m) and Alicia Janke (T-2nd, 3.90m-Personal Best). Johnson tied Brisbois for the best vault of the outdoor season by an Owl and is now tied for third in Conference USA.
Saturday's meet consisted of New Mexico St., Rice, South Plains College, UAJC and UTEP. Over the weekend the Owls also competed at the Mt. SAC Relays and Bryan Clay Invitational, totaling three personal bests and four season-bests. Freshman Elsa Racasan competed late Friday night/Saturday morning at the Mt. SAC Relays and set a personal best in the 1500m (4:36.06).
The Owls next have their eyes set on the J. Fred Duckett Twilight next Saturday, April 24 at Wendel D. Ley Track and Holloway Field.
