AUSTIN, Texas - The Rice Owls men's and women's track and field teams combined to set eight season-best marks on day two of the Texas Invitational on Saturday afternoon at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
The trio of Steve Booker (8:39.47), Brad Dohner (8:41.43) and Griffin Lee (8:42.56) placed 4-5-6, respectively, in the 3000m, claiming the 2-3-4 rankings in Conference USA this outdoor season. The three distance runners combined to garner 12 of the Owls' 42 team points en route to a ninth place finish by the men.
Other highlights by the men included a season-best time by Filip Drozdowski in the 110m hurdles, earning the third-best time (14.28) in C-USA this season. Redshirt senior Austin Riddle also jumped into the top 10 in C-USA with a ninth-place result (49.83m/163-6.00) in the discus.
Sophomore Reagan Olguin, who ranks second in the 800m in C-USA, just missed on besting his season-best mark by placing sixth in the same event on Saturday with a time of 1:51.66.
On the women's side, redshirt freshman had another strong performance for the Owls by placing fourth among collegiate competitors in the 200m (23.22) and 11th in the 100m dash (11.70). Jackson also joined Bryannah Rideaux, Michelle Fokam and Camille Little to set a season-best time of 46.25 to finish fourth in the 4x100 relay.
Senior middle distance runner Brooke Johnson also gave the Owls a solid performance in the 800m, setting a season-best and moving into eighth in C-USA with a time of 2:13.43 (8th place).
Rice will host the annual J. Fred Duckett Twilight next Saturday, April 22 at Wendel D. Ley Track.
