Sophomore sprinter Desarie Walwyn was named Conference USA's women's track and field athlete of the week Tuesday after winning the 100-meters and 200-meters at the 24th Annual Victor Lopez Rice Bayou Classic.

Walwyn won the 100 in 11.57, qualifying for the NCAA regional meet at Austin in May, and also nabbed gold in the 200 at 24.24. She anchored the Owls' sprint relay to a 47.10 clocking as Rice was the first collegiate team across the line.

The Owls travel to Austin this weekend for the 79th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.
