Rice senior Lennie Waite doubled her Saturday running schedule by earning the 10th and final qualifying spot in the NCAA Indoor women's mile final on Friday at the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium at McFerrin Athletic Center on the campus of Texas A&M University.
Waite, who was seeded 10th in event, finished sixth in the first heat of the night's competition in a time of 4:42.77. She finished .06 ahead of Heidi Dahl of East Tennessee State for the last spot in the finals, which will be run at 5:00 on Saturday. She will be looking to become the Owls' first All American in the women's indoor mile since Candace Lessmeister in 1995.
Less than two hours later, Waite will be back on the track to compete in the timed final in the women's 3000 meters. She comes into the race seeded 14th.
