IRVING, Texas – For a second straight year, Rice junior distance runner Cali Roper was selected the Conference USA Track Performer of the Meet, the league office announced Friday afternoon.
The athletes were chosen in voting done by the C-USA track and field coaches, based on performances at the C-USA Indoor Championships last week in Birmingham.
Roper, from Conroe, Texas, swept the 3000m (9:32.10) and 5000m (16:18.65) titles to earn 20 points for the Owls and became just the fourth athlete in league history to win both those individual titles at the same meet.
Roper was also just the fourth athlete in league history to win consecutive 5000m titles, recording the top time among all C-USA competitors this season in the event. Her winning time of 9:32.10 in the 3000m was also a lifetime best.
With the two victories Roper became a 7-time C-USA champion between cross country, indoor T&F and outdoor T&F.
