Houston -- The Rice Owls women's track and field program will be gunning for its fourth-straight Conference USA Indoor Track and Field title this weekend at the University of Houston's Yeoman Field house.
The Owls won last season's C-USA Indoor championship with 148 points, which was 15 more than their winning point total in 2008 (133). Rice won its first indoor conference championship in 2007 with 100 points. The Owls, under the direction of head coach Jim Bevan, have also won the last three C-USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Sophomore Owl Keltie John has the league's top 800m time heading into this weekend's competition at 2:09.65. Ariana Ince leads Rice and C-USA in the pole vault with a top mark of 3.85m/12-7.5. The Owls do have plenty of depth and should certainly be in the hunt for its fourth indoor team title.
Competition in the 2010 Conference USA Indoor Track and Field Championships begins at 9 a.m. on Friday with the first events in the pentathlon and heptathlon. Field event competition begins at 2 p.m. The women's 5000m final begins at 5 p.m. and the remaining events begin at 6 p.m. Competition resumes on Saturday morning (11 a.m.) for the multi-events, 1 p.m. field events, and at 3 p.m. for running event finals.
