IRVING, Texas - Rice sophomore Michelle Fokam was named the Conference USA Female Field Performer of the Meet, the league office announced on Friday.
Fokam, from Katy, Texas, became the first Owl in school history to win both the triple jump and long jump indoor titles this past weekend at the Birmingham CrossPlex. In addition, Fokam was just the third athlete to win both titles at the same meet in C-USA Indoor history and the first since 2010.
Fokam set a personal best with a winning mark of 12.58m (41-03.25-25th in the nation) to win the triple jump and also established a new PR in the long jump with a winning leap of 6.13m (20-1.25-46th in the nation).
Fokam, along with sophomore teammate Hannah Jackson (200m), will be competing this Sunday at the Boston University Last Chance Meet to attempt to earn qualifying marks for the NCAA Indoor Championships (March 9-10).
