Rice's women's track and field team competes this weekend at the 2012 Conference USA Indoor Championship in Birmingham, Ala., inside the Birmingham CrossPlex.

UAB hosts the championship for the first time. The two-day event is set for Saturday, Feb. 25 and Sunday, Feb. 26. Prior to this season, Houston had been the only school to host the Championships at an on-campus site.

The indoor championship will be televised by Fox Sports Network on a tape delayed.

The Owls previously won the team title their first three years in the league. Rice won with 100 points in 2007, 133.5 points in 2008, and 148 points in 2009.

The preliminary events will begin at 9 a.m. CT on Saturday with the pentathlon and heptathlon events, followed by field events at 10 a.m.

Sunday's actions start with the heptathlon 60m hurdles, pole vault and 1,000m run at 10 a.m. The championship field events will begin with the women's shot put at Noon and the running events at 2 p.m. The championships will conclude with the final awards presentation set for 5:30 p.m.

Senior Sophie Peeters leads Rice in the 800m and is ranked third in C-USA with a time of 2:10.97. Her teammate, Kylie Cullinan is seventh with a time of 2:13.72.

Seniors Becky Wade and Allison Pye are among the fastest distance runners in C-USA. Wade enters the mile with the second-best mark of 4:50.14, while Pye is fourth at 4:52.04. The duo is also ranked in the top five in the 3000m and in the 5000m. Wade is second (9:26.33), while Pye follows in fifth at 9:33.12 in the 3K and in the 5K Wade is second (16:21.81) and Pye is third fastest (16:35.35) in the league.



The Owls will look to score a ton of points in the pole vault with five competitors. Senior Cleona Oliver highlights the quintet with a second ranked mark of 3.76m/12-4. Casie Wilson, Chaney Turney, Marielle Brisbois, and Alicia Janke all sport a season-high mark of 3.46m/11-4.25, which is ninth in C-USA.

Freshman Claire Uke looks to improve her 10th-place ranking (13.48m/44-2.75) in the shot put. Uke is also 15th in the weight throw (15.27m/50-1.25). Brittany Brown is the top Owl in the weight throw with a mark of 16.22m/53-2.75, which is 11th-best in C-USA. Sharae Robinson is 14th in the weight throw (15.47m/50-9.25).

Kiri Kendall enters the pentathlon with a seaon-high 2,912 points, which is ranked ninth in the conference.

Competing for the women's title will be all 12 members of C-USA - East Carolina, Houston, Marshall, Memphis, Rice, SMU, Southern Miss, Tulane, Tulsa, UAB, UCF and UTEP. Marshall, SMU, UCF and UAB do not sponsor indoor men's track and field.

Admission prices are as followed; two-day pass $20 for adults and $10 for youth (12-17); single day ticket $15 per day for adults and $6 for youth (12-17). Admission is FREE for children age 11 and under and for students with valid ID cards who attend a C-USA member institution.
