BIRMINGHAM, AL - The 2018 Conference USA Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships begin Saturday, February 17, at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Alabama. The meet will conclude Sunday night (Feb. 18). UAB and CrossPlex are hosting the event for the seventh consecutive season.
The championship will begin at 9 a.m. CT on Saturday with the combined events, starting with both the heptathlon and pentathlon. Jumps and throws will commence at 2 p.m. with running event preliminaries and finals starting at 4 p.m.
Sunday will see the rest of the heptathlon events completed at 9 a.m. followed by field events at 11 a.m. The day will conclude with the final running events at 1 p.m. and the awards presentation at 4:15 p.m.
On the men's side, the Owls senior Scott Filip has the highest point toal (5717 points) in the heptathlon this season while Rice's Distance Medley Relay enters this weekend with the top mark of 9:48.52. Senior thrower Austin Riddle has the second-best mark in the weight throw (20.13m) and will be in seach of his first career C-USA title.
Redshirt sophomore sprinter Hannah Jackson leads all of C-USA in the 200m (23.59) while the Rice women also have the top Distance Medley Relay time (11:49.66) this indoor season.
Last season the Rice women placed second while the men finished sixth.
Admission prices are as follows: a two-day pass is $20 for adults and $10 for youth (12-17); while a single day ticket $15 per day for adults and $6 for youth (12-17). Admission is FREE for children age 11 and under and for students with valid ID cards who attend a C-USA member institution.
