Rice sophomore Allison Pye set a Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium record while winning the 5,000 meters to highlight the performances of the Rice women at the first night of the Texas A&M Indoor track Invitational on Friday night.
Pye won the event going away, finished with a personal-best and provisional qualifying time of 16:35.25. He time broke the old Gilliam record of 17:05.88 set by Christina Munoz of Texas A&M earlier this year. He time is also the fastest in C-USA this year heading into this weekend.
Becky Wade finished second to Pye in 17:02.63, also setting a personal best. Her time would rank third in the current C-USA tabulation.
Pye and Wade provided the Owls 18 points in the team standings after eight completed events in the two-day meet which will conclude competition at 1:00 Saturday afternoon.
