The Rice women's track and field squad competes on Saturday, Feb. 11 at the Texas A&M Invitational in College Station, Texas, at the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium. Finals begin at 2 p.m.
This is the Owls' final date of competition prior to the Conference USA Indoor Championship that takes place Feb. 25-26 in Birmingham, Ala. Other teams competing at the Texas A&M Invitational include, UTEP, Houston, Alabama, Baylor, Missouri, TCU and USC.
Top competitors for Rice are Becky Wade and Allison Pye in the 3000m, Sophie Peeters, Kylie Cullinan, and Keltie John in the 800m, Cleona Oliver in the pole vault, Brittany Brown, Claire Uke, Olivia Williams, and Sharae Robinson in the throwing events.
Wade ranks first in C-USA in the 5000m (16:21.81) and second in the 3000m (9:26.33), while Pye is second in the 5000m (16:35.35) and fourth in the 3000m (9:33.37). Wade and Pye also rank second (4:50.14) and fourth in the mile (4:52.04) respectively. Peeters is fourth in the 800m (2:12.88), with Cullinan sixth (2:13.72) and John 10th (2:16.36). Oliver ranks second in pole vault with a mark of 3.75m/12-3.5, while freshmen Chaney Turney and Marielle Brisbois are both sixth at 3.45m/11-5.75.
Uke, a freshman, is ninth in the shot put (13.48m/44-2.75), while Williams ranks 20th (11.75m/38-6.75). Brown is rated 10th in the weight throw at 16.22m/53-2.75, with Robinson coming in at 13th (15.47m/50-9.25).
