Rice senior Lennie Waite lowered her personal best in the 3000 meters by over 10 seconds, to lead a host of personal bests by the Owls at Notre Dame's Meyo Invitational on Saturday.
Waite finished fourth in the event in a time of 9:16.90, bettering her effort of 9:27.55 that she posted at the Houston Invitational last weekend. She was one of two Owls to post a provisional qualifying standard in the race as teammate Nicole Mericle finished eighth in 9:32.57.
Junior Brittany Washington posted the Owls top individual finish during the meet, finishing third in the 400 meters with a personal best of 55.22.
"We came up here hoping to run well and we had a great meet," Rice head coach Jim Bevan said. "We had a bunch of personal bests and we are right where we need to be in terms of progress."
While her teammates were racing in Indiana and others remained back in Houston for an all-comers meet at the University of Houston, vaulter Ariana Ince accompanied the Rice men's team to compete at the Frank Sevigne Invitational and finished second with a vault of 3.90m/12-09.50.
