Rice University sprinter Shakera Reece has been named as the Conference USA Track and Field Athlete of the Week. Reece earned an NCAA provisional time in the 60-meter dash at the Houston Invitational with a time of 7.39 to finish second overall and first in the collegiate pool. The senior's mark was a shade behind former C-USA and Tulane All-American Gloria Asumnu (7.33) of Adidas and .01 short of tying the school record set by TaNisha Mills (7.38) in 1997.
Reece, a native of St. Lucy, Barbados, also finished tied for first in the 200m dash with a time of 24.53. She owns the top mark in the 60m and is tied for the fastest time in the 200m on the C-USA women's chart. This is Reece's first career Athlete of the Week honor.
