The Rice women's track and field began competition at the Houston Indoor Invitational on Friday inside Yeoman Fieldhouse on the University of Houston campus. The majority of the competition is on Saturday.
In the women's pole vault, Rice had two of the top four finishers including Ariana Ince who captured first place with a mark of 3.85m/12-7.5. Also, sophomore Cleona Oliver was fourth at 3.40m/11-1.75.
Owl freshman Lillian Nwora placed eighth in the long jump "B" competition with a mark of 5.18m/17-0.0
Three Owls are among the top after the first day of competition in the pentathalon. Bridget Ugoh is fourth (2,466 points), while Shannon Moran is seventh (2,452 points), and Britney Blodget is eighth with 2,390 points.
Maya Kirk placed fifth in the 400m "B" with a time of 1:01.34.
