Uke Named C-USA Athlete of the Week

IRVING, Texas - Rice track and field thrower Claire Uke was awarded the Conference USA Athlete of the Week following her winning performance at the Leonard Hilton Memorial Invitational last weekend, the league announced Tuesday afternoon.
Uke, a senior from Cedar Hill, Texas, was tabbed the Female Athlete of the Week for the first time in her career after winning the shot put with a throw of 16.97m (55-08.25). Uke's heave was four feet further than the next closest competitor and currently ranks third in the entire NCAA.
A 2014 Indoor All-American, Uke's victory in the indoor shot put was the fifth of her illustrious career and the mark was a personal best.
Uke and the rest of the Owls will next compete at the Howie Ryan Invitational, Jan. 30-31 at University of Houston's Yeoman Fieldhouse.
