May 23, 2013
Marie Thompson ran a 38:12.07 in the 10,000 m race at the NCAA Championships West Preliminary Round in Austin, Texas. Sharae Robinson threw 173 feet 9 inches in her first of two events, the hammer throw to mark the first two of five Rice women's track athletes competing in the NCAA Championship.
Robinson finished 41st in the hammer throw, finishing her collegiate career in the hammer as the Rice school record holder, a record previously held by both her sisters, Krystal and Tina Robinson. Sharae competes again on Friday in the discus, an event she won the C-USA title in.
Thompson finished 45th in the 10,000 m race, running a 38:12.07. She scored in that event in the C-USA Championship.
"Marie's legs were still not recovered from her 10k, 5k double at the Conference USA Championships," said Rice head coach Jim Bevan. "She competed hard, she just had nothing left in her legs."
