Orlando -- The Rice women's track and field team placed third with 87 points at the 2010 Conference USA Outdoor Track & Field Championship held at UCF. Host UCF won the team title with 114 points.
"UCF really stepped up today on their own turf and we weren't able to respond," commented Rice head coach Jim Bevan. "We had some great efforts and season bests from Tina Robinson and Katie Dollinger in the shot put, Heather Olson and Keltie John in the 1500m, Sarah Agara (triple jump), Kimberly Stanford (100 hurdles), and Marie Thompson (5000m). The conference continues to get better and better. I am very proud of our young ladies and am proud of who they are and how hard they work and strive to achieve."
Rice sprinter Shakera Reece placed third in the 100m with a season-fast 11.53 and third in the 200m (23.87).
"Shakera Reece was awesome at conference, having another stellar performance with two medals," said Bevan.
Vicki Walker and Keltie John placed fifth and sixth respectively in the 800m. Walker finished at 2:11.56, while John followed at 2:14.62.
