Four Owls Qualify for Sunday's Finals at C-USA Championships

MURFREESBORO, Tenn.
- The Rice Owls women's T&F squad had four athletes punch their ticket to Sunday's finals at the C-USA Outdoor Championships Saturday afternoon at Dean Hayes Track.

A pair of Owls qualified for the 1500m finals (Sunday, 3:55 p.m.) with sophomore Elsa Racasan placing second in heat and finishing sixth overall in a time of 4:39.99. Fellow sophomore teammate Abigail Cartwright finished fourth in that same heat and ninth overall with a mark of 4:40.59.

Freshman Bryanah Rideaux, from Houston, qualified for her first outdoor finals by winning her heat of the 400m dash (55.64) and placing fourth overall. The Owls other finals qualifier was junior Brooke Johnson, who finished eighth overall in the 800m in a time of 2:15.17.

In addition to Saturday's qualifiers, Hannah Kay helped the Owls pick up four team points with a fifth place finish in the 3000m steeplechase. The San Diego, Calif. native set a new lifetime best mark of 10:53.33 in the final event of the evening.

Rice will enter the final day of competition in second place with 43 team points, trailing only host Middle Tennessee (60 points). Sunday will begin with the women's javelin at 12:30 p.m.
