LOS ANGELES, CA - The Rice Owls women's track and field squad competed in their final meet before next week's C-USA Outdoor Championships, sending a split-squad to the Oxy Invite on the campus of Occidental College on Saturday.
Junior Belle MacFarlane placed first collegiately (third overall) in the high jump with a season-best leap of 1.74m (5-08.50). MacFarlane improved on each of her four jumps, clearing 1.74m on her lone attempt. Saturday marked the fourth time this season that MacFarlane placed in the top three in the high jump.
Sophomore Daisy Ding finished at the top collegiate athlete in the triple jump, leaping 12.78m (41-11.25). Ding placed in the top three for the fourth time in five meets this outdoor season. Joining MacFarlane and Ding as top three finishers on Saturday was junior McKenzie Johnson, placing third in the pole vault after clearing 3.90m (12-09.50).
"This was a very good tune up meet for us," Rice women's track and field head coach Jim Bevan said. "We accomplished eight season-bests and it was nice for us to shake off some rust after having a break for finals. We're looking forward to our conference meet next week."
The Owls will now gear up for the C-USA Outdoor Championships, which take place May 14-17 in El Paso on the campus of UTEP.
