HOUSTON - Rice senior All-American Daisy Ding won her third triple jump competition of the outdoor season with a winning performance of 12.90m (42-4.00) Friday afternoon at the Tom Tellez Invitational, hosted by the University of Houston.
In the final weekend before the C-USA Outdoor Championships, the Owls set eight season-bests and four PR's,which included Akuria Young's second place finish (first collegiately) in the 400m hurdles (1:02.87). Rice also had a season-best performance by their 4x100 relay (Hannah Jackson, Michelle Fokam, Camille Little and Eobni Sutherland), running a 45.76.
Rice redshirt freshman Hannah Jackson continued her splendid campaign by finishing third overall (first collegiately), in both the 100m (11.66) and 200m (23.39).
In other field events, Ijeoma Ugwunze set a season-best (45.13m/148-01) to place second overall in the discus while Zinedine Russell placed third collegiately in the high jump with a season-best mark of 1.60m (5-03.00).
Abby Halm finished first collegiately in the 1500m with a PR time of 4:44.34 while Anna Figueroa (4:45.89) and Ellen Diemert (4:48.62) placed second and third collegiately in the same event.
The Owls will also have a handful of runners competing in Los Angeles, Calif. on Saturday at the Oxy Invitational.
