Rice senior sprinter Desarie Walwyn lowered her qualifying time in the 200 meters with a personal record clocking of 23.65 and Callie Wells posted the Owls top 800 meter time this year at the Houston Invitational on the campus of the University of Houston on Saturday.
Walwyn finished fifth in the 200, while lowering her regional time by .13 seconds. Wells was one of four Owls to capture individual titles during the meet, winning the 800 meters with a time of 2:13.49.
Brittany Williams won the 1500 meters in a time of 4:41.58 while sophomore Sarah Lyons was the top collegiate finisher in the 400 meters in 54.11. Jenny Glover grabbed the top spot in the triple jump with a leap of 12.18 meters (39-11.50) to round out the Owls individual winners.
Freshman Alex Gibbs lowered her personal best in the 100 meter hurdles with a 14.27 clocking, edging teammate Lacee Carmon, who hit the line in a season-best 14.45.
