Walnut, Calif. - Rice University distance runner Becky Wade set a school record in the 5000-meter run held at the Mt. SAC Relays Friday night.

Wade, a senior from Dallas and Ursuline Academy, ran 16:03.71 in placing 16th overall. She was, however, the fifth collegian to cross the finish line.

The previous record for the 5000m was 16:11.34 and held by Britany Williams. Williams also set her mark at the Mt. SAC Relays in 2010.

This was Wade's third record that she has set this year. Earlier, she set the outdoor 10,000m record and during the indoor season she established a new threshold for the 5000m.

Also at Mt. SAC, senior Allison Pye, from Houston and Cypress Creek H.S., ran the seventh-fastest 10,000m in Rice history. Pye posted a time of 34:59.36 in finishing eighth. She, too, was also the fifth collegiate runner to finish.

Rice head coach Jim Bevan was proud of how his two seniors performed at the prestigious at Mt. SAC Relays.

"I am very happy and proud for this duo," stated Bevan. "Becky Wade and Allison Pye are the best distance running duo in Rice history."
