Walker Wins 800m at Michael Johnson Classic

Waco, Texas - Rice's Vicki Walker won the 800m at Baylor's Michael Johnson Classic on Saturday at the Hart-Patterson Track Complex. The meet was eventually cancelled with four scheduled events remaining, including the 400m hurdles, 200m, 5000m, and 4x400m relay. Walker captured the 800m event with Rice's fastest time of 2010 at 2:12.11. Also, sophomore Sophie Peeters was sixth with a time of 2:16.50. Placing 30th in the 800m was Sarah Mason at 2:23.72.

Shakera Reece was fifth in the 200m with a time of 24.29 (-2.2 wind). Also in the 200m, Candace Springer was 32nd with a season-best of 26.16, Sarah Lyons 34th (26.22), and Maya Kirk 42nd (26.41). Reece qualified for, but did not start, the 100m final with a time of 11.85.

Freshman Lillian Nwora was 11th in the 400m (57.66), while Lyons posted a time of 59.28 to place 22nd. Kirk went 59.89 to finish 27th. In the 1500m, Claire Shorall placed first (4:43.99) and Addie Quinn was at 4:44.39. Georgina Norton placed ninth with a time of 4:54.31.

Kim Stanford was third in the 100m hurdles with a time of 13.99. Britney Blodget was 21st in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:09.91.

The Owls' 4x100m relay team of Kim Stanford, Sarah Lyons, Candace Springer, and Shakera Reece placed fourth with a time of 47.09.



Sarah Agara was fifth in the triple jump (11.74m/38-6.25), while Shannon Moran placed fourth in the long jump with a mark of 5.73m/18-9.75, her second-best mark of 2010.

In the hammer throw, Tina Robinson placed second with a mark of 50.32m/165-01, while Katie Dollinger was third (47.17m/154-9) and Brittany Brown was 10th (41.47m/136-1). Freshman Sharae Robinson finished 14th (38.10m/125-0) in the hammer throw, but led Rice in the discus with a fourth place mark of 41.36m/135-8, which is her season-best.

Brown was 12th in the shot put (11.89m/39-0.25), while Dollinger came in 16th at 11.44m/37-6.5.

Ari Ince placed fourth in the javelin with a mark of 41.15m/135-0. In the pole vault, sophomore Cleona Oliver placed 12th at 3.50m/11-5.75, while Casie Wilson was 15th also at 3.35m/10-11.75.

The Owls compete next Saturday at Rice's J.Fred Duckett/Rice Twilight starting at 6 p.m.
