Walnut, Calif. -- The Rice Owls distance runners posted four lifetime bests on Friday at the 51st Annual Mt. SAC Relays at Hilmer Lodge Stadium.
In the 1500m Invite U/O, senior Lennie Waite placed sixth with a school record time of 4:16.09. The previous record was held by Shaquandra Roberson in 2000 with a time of 4:16.86. Waite's mark also ranks as the second-fastest time in the nation in the 1500m. Though she was sixth, Waite was actually the second collegian to cross the finish line.
Nicole Mericle placed ninth in the 1500m OD U/O with a personal-best and NCAA Regional qualifying time of 4:25.24.
Another Rice distance record fell to the wayside as Allison Pye, in the 5000m OD U/O, posted a time of 16:21.35 to finish eighth. Pye was however the fifth collegian. She breaks Marissa Daniels' record of 16:28.87 set in 2006.
Senior Callie Wells, running in the 5000m Univ/Open U/O, placed third with the fourth all-time fastest time at 16:33.71.
"This is one of the best weekends ever for our distance runners," said Rice head coach Jim Bevan. "They have been running awesome races with exceptional effort and I am just ecstatic in the way that they have competed."
