WALNUT, Calif. - Rice sophomore distance runners Cali Roper and Katie Jensen each set personal best times in the 10,000m race at the 57th annual Mt. SAC Relays Thursday evening at Hilmer Lodge Stadium.
"Both Cali and Katie each had tremendous performances tonight," Rice women's track and field head coach Jim Bevan said. "Katie was running in just the second 10k of her life and now will be on the bubble to qualify for the NCAA Prelims. Cali was coming off a bit of an injury and ran a 17:18 in the first 5k, followed by a 16:43 in the second 5k in which she passed at least 12 runners. This was an awesome start to the weekend for us."
Roper was the top collegiate finisher, placing fourth overall with a time of 34:01.75 in the women's elite 10k race. Roper's time is tops among all C-USA competitors this outdoor season. Jensen also placed fourth overall in the Open 10k, finishing in a time of 35:04.39, second to only Roper in C-USA.
