WALNUT, Calif. - Rice freshman distance runner Cali Roper placed ninth in the 10,000 meter run Thursday evening at the Mt. SAC Relays at the Historic Hilmer Lodge Stadium on the campus of Mt. San Antonio College, setting a new Owls freshman record.
Roper, a native of Conroe, Texas (Willis High School), ran the nation's third-fastest time (34:18.42) by a freshman in the outdoor 10,000m this season and the mark was the 24th overall in the country. The time is also the third-best in Conference USA thus far.
Roper also set a freshman record in the 5,000m earlier this season at the Stanford Invitational.
Freshman Katie Jensen also ran her first 10,000m along side Roper and ran a 35:55.50 for 28th.
