AUSTIN, Texas - The Rice Owls women's track and field team placed four athletes in the top three (collegiately) at Saturday's Texas Invitational at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Sophomore jumper Cybil Obiozor was the top collegiate finisher in the triple jump, accomplishing 12.46m (40-10.50) on her second-to-last attempt. Obiozor, from Pearland, Texas, finished behind only Alicia Smith's (unattached) mark of 12.87m.
Ijeoma Ugwunze, a sophomore native of McKinney, Texas, had her second-straight solid week in the throws placing second collegiately in both the shot put (14.07m) and discus (47.13m). Ugwunze was coming off a victory in the discus at the Victor Lopez Classic.
Also finishing in the top three was junior jumper Belle MacFarlane, finishing tied for third in the high jump with a mark of 1.70m (5'7").
The Owls will next be in action April 17 when they send a split squad to each of the Oxy Invitational (California) and the UTEP Invitational (El Paso).
