El Paso, Texas - Rice track and field athlete Tina Robinson established a new school record in the hammer throw with a mark of 52.14m/171-0 in finishing third at the UTEP Invitational held at Kidd Field. She surpasses her previous record mark of 51.95/170-5 set at the TSU Relays (March 19, 2010). Placing fourth in the hammer throw was senior Katie Dollinger with mark of 49.59m/162-8, while Brittany Brown was eighth (42.60m/139-9). Tina Robinson was also second in the discus at 42.17m/138-4, while Brown was fourth 40.84m/134-0.
In the shot put competition, Tina Robinson was third woth a season-best mark of 13.22m/43-4.25, while Brittany Brown followed in fourth with a season-high mark of 12.91m/42-4.25). Placing sixth was Katie Dollinger with a mark of 12.22m/40-1.25.
Shannon Moran was sixth in the high jump at 1.50m/4-11. Moran was also eighth in the long jump (5.70m/18-8.5). Kiri Kendall finished 10th (5.42m/17-9.5), while Lillian Nwora was 12th (5.16m/16-11.25). Former Owl All-America and current volunteer assistant coach Funmi Jimoh won the long jump event with a distance of 6.72m/22-0.75.
In the triple jump, Sarah Agara placed fourth at 11.33m/37-2.25.
Rice's 4x100m relay squad (Kim Stanford, Brittany Washington, Sarah Lyons, and Shakera Reece) placed second with a time of 46.42, which is a new season-fast time for Rice. Stanford also placed second in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.11, which is the fastest time by an Owl this outdoor season. Reece placed second in the 100m with a hand time of 11.20 and third in the 200m with a season-best time of 23.95. Lyons was 10th at 25.57.
In the 400m, Nwora was eighth with the team best time for 2010 at 57.28. Vicki Walker finished ninth (57.47), while Sarah Lyons was 12th at 58.23.
Washington also was sixth in the 400m hurdles at 1:05.86. In the 4x400m relay, Rice (Nwora, Lyons, Walker, Washington) placed second with a 2010 fast time of 3:46.21.
