HOUSTON, Texas - Rice sophomore distance runner Katie Jensen won her first collegiate race on Friday, finishing in a time of 17:27.77 to take home the 5000m gold medal at Friday's Victor Lopez Bayou Classic.
A native of The Woodlands, Jensen beat the next closest competitor by nearly a full 20 seconds to earn 10 points for the Owls. Jensen, who was making her outdoor debut on Friday, placed third in the same event at last year's C-USA Outdoor Championships.
Jensen and the rest of the Owls will be out in full force on Saturday, the final day of the Victor Lopez Classic. Action gets underway at 11 a.m.
