AUSTIN - Rice senior All-American thrower Claire Uke placed second in the shot put and fifth in the discus to wrap up the final day of the Texas Relays Saturday afternoon at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Uke, from Cedar Hill, Texas, began the afternoon by recording a throw of 52.78m (169-0) to place fifth in the discus A section. She then notched her highest finish of her career at the Texas Relays by placing second in the shot put A section with a heave of 16.69m (54-9.25) on her very first attempt, bested only by Auburn's Valentina Muzaric (17.01m).
Rice's other competitor on Saturday was junior Ijeoma Ugwunze, who placed 10th in the B section of the discus (42.60m).
The Owls also had a small group of competitors at the Bobcat Invitational, led by junior sprinter Eboni Sutherland, who ran her second-fastest time as an Owl in the 200m with a 24.87.
Rice will be back in action next weekend, April 8-9, at the Skechers Carl Knight Invitational hosted by Stephen F. Austin.
