HOUSTON, Texas - After nearly an hour weather delay, the Rice women's track and field team took part in three events on the second day of the Victor Lopez Classic at the Holloway Field and Ley Track.
Freshman distance runner Cali Roper highlighted the evening by finishing as the top collegiate runner (2nd overall) in the 1500m run with a time of 4:35.98 in her inaugural outdoor meet. Less than 45 minutes later Roper backed up her performance with a 17:22.76 in the 5000m, also finishing as the top collegiate runner.
Fellow freshman teammate Katie Jensen finished just seconds behind Roper in the 1500m for a second place mark of 4:37.08, third overall.
Junior middle distance runner Kathleen Abadie ran in the 3000m steeplechase and placed fourth, finishing with a time of 11:26.36.
The Owls closed the night just before midnight with the 10000m run, where Christina Wassef placed fourth (38:51.01).
Rice will be back in action tomorrow beginning at 11 a.m. when Claire Uke and Ijeoma Ugwunze compete in the discus throw.
