The Rice Owls women's track and field team won the two-day 27th Annual Victor Lopez Bayou Classic with 98.5 points, edging the University of Texas who finished with 92 points at the Rice Track Stadium. Houston placed third 75.5 points, while Stephen F. Austin State was fourth with 75 points.

This year's version of the Victor Lopez Bayou Classic set a record with the largest number of competitors combined with collegiate and high school athletes.

On the second day of action, the Owls received strong performances from several competitors. Sophomore Shakera Reece placed second in the 100m (12.19) and third in the 200m (24.43). In the 800m, the Owls placed three in the top five. Freshman Keltie John won the event (2:14.15), while freshman Sophie Peeters was third (2:15.13), and Vicki Walker was fifth at 2:17.11.

In the 100m hurdles, Kim Stanford was third (14.67) and Luci Cincinatis was sixth (14.87). Cincinatis was also fourth in the 400m hurdles (1:05.12). Rice's 4x100m relay of Kim Stanford, Sarah Lyons, Cincinatis, and Reece placed second (46.50) as did the 4x400m team (Lyons, Walker, Reece, and Brittany Washington) with a time of 3:48.22.

Freshman Cleona Oliver was third in the pole vault with a mark of 3.50m/11-5.75. Sarah Agara and Jenny Glover went 1-2 in the triple jump. Agara reached a top mark of 12.13/39-9.75, while Glover posted a best of 11.99m/39-4.

The Owls now prepare for next weekend's Texas Relays in Austin, Texas.
