HOUSTON, Texas - Rice sophomore vaulter McKenzie Johnson earned a lifetime best mark of 13-05.25 (4.10m) to win the pole vault at the TSU Relays Friday afternoon. A native of San Diego, Calif., Johnson posted a personal outdoor best mark and fell just shy of the school record held by Rachel Greff (2007- 4.20m).

Johnson was one of four Rice athletes to place in the top three. Joining her was freshman thrower Ijeoma Ugwunze, who had a lifetime-best throw of 152-11 (46.6m) in the discus to place second in her collegiate outdoor debut. Junior vaulter Alicia Jahnke also returned from injury to place third in the polve vault behind Johnson with a mark of 11-11.75 (3.65m), also a personal best.

Freshman jumper Daisy Ding placed third in the high jump with a lifetime best mark of 5-05.75 (1.67m).

The Owls also got a solid performance from junior sprinter Tyneisha McCoy, who qualified for the finals Saturday in the 100m dash with a time of 12.39 on Friday.
