Houston - The Rice Owls women's track and field squad was impressive on day one of action at the TSU Relays, hosted by Texas Southern Friday afternoon.

Tyneisha McCoy and Lilian Nwora each earned a spot in the 400m final on Saturday. McCoy posted the third-best pre-lim time at 57.09, while Nwora was seventh (58.83).
The Owls turned in nice efforts in the throwing events. Sharae Robinson was third in the hammer throw with mark of 47.13m/154-7 and Claire Uke was eighth (40.43m/132-8). Ellen Trinklein was sixth in the javelin with a distance of 22.38m/73-5.
"I'm extremely happy with where we are at in the throws," stated Owl head coach Jim Bevan. "Claire Uke posted a personal-best in the discus and our sprinters had to run in a difficult head wind, but they are running well and are looking forward to tomorrow's races."
Competition concludes on Saturday.
